To me, the process of learner empowerment is significant in my professional life as an educator, as well as in my personal life. Empowerment enables us to realise our potential, whether it is known or unknown to us. I have always gone for challenges through opportunities that came my way. Surprisingly, I discovered that I can do some of the things that I thought I could never do, like running marathons and living my life in several languages. For each challenge, I was encouraged and supported by people who somehow had faith in me, without knowing about my potential and abilities. Their trust in me led me to discover and pursue the things that have become an integral part of my life and identities. Throughout the process, I have been learning the importance of personal integrity and ethics in my choices and actions. There are many different perspectives, beliefs, and values in the world, and through social media and other forms of mass communication, it becomes challenging to make appropriate and ethically-sound decisions for the benefit of those who may be implicated or impacted by my decisions. Therefore, it is important for the growth and development of self and others, and those of our communities and societies, to listen to what people have to say in order to understand where they are coming from and where they stand now, to maintain an open-minded dialogue and collaboration for problem-solving and demonstrating care.
